With the World Junior Hockey Championships is Calgary over the holidays, we were lucky enough to get tickets to five different games. On January 4th we had tickets to a relegation game featuring Denmark and Latvia. Not exactly hockey powerhouses, but the perfect game for me to take Avery. We left around 10am to catch the 11am game and knew that we were in for a long day. Turns out that Avery loves hockey...as well as ice cream, hamburgers, mascots, noise makers, and other things that go with the actual play on the ice.
She watched the entire first period and had lots of questions. During the first intermission we got an ice cream and it took her the entire second period to eat that. During the second intermission we got a hamburger and some noise makers and that kept her going through the third period and overtime.
The game was quite entertaining (especially for the 9 vs. 10 game). After the game we went over to the World Junior Fan Zone and spent about an hour and a half walking through all of the exhibits. There were displays from the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Stanley Cup was there, and there were booths where you could shoot pucks. Avery really wanted a chance to shoot pucks at the targets. I wouldn't call the two of us snipers, but I am sure she would have been better without my help.
On the way home we stopped for coffee (dad) and a muffin (Avery) and never got home until 4:30pm. A big day, but worth every minute!
